Teeth Cleaning

Why is Teeth Cleaning so important to us at The Barking Brew…

As groomers we get to experience first-hand the dreaded dog breath. Sadly, majority of the time the dreaded dog breath is caused by a build-up of bacteria on dogs’ teeth. It is estimated that 80% of dogs suffer from peri-dental disease by the age of 2. This disease is painful and can lead to systemic issues like kidney and heart disease. Most the time our beloved pets won’t let us know they are suffering!

We cannot irradicate dental disease, but we can help prevent more pups from enduring it.  This is why we introduced the Emmi-pet teeth cleaning to our services.

How Emmi-pet teeth cleaning works:

Emmi-pet is a non-invasive and gentle ultrasound brush which is coupled with an enzymatic toothpaste. The two work together producing micro-bubbles and ultrasound waves which penetrate deep into the plaque and gum line to soften the plaque and remove the build up of bacteria. Once softened we as groomers can then remove the plaque with ease causing no discomfort.

Stages of Teeth Cleaning:

Step 1 – Teeth Consultation:

This will either be over the phone or in person, we will discuss things like your dog’s age, previous dental work, diet etc and whether we think the emmi-pet will be suitable for them.

Step 2 – Trial and Desensitisation:

This is a 30 minute appointment where we first asses the dogs teeth, handling of their mouth and take picture for reference. We slowly introduce the dog to the teeth cleaning equipment going at the dogs pace. If the dog can tolerate the brush we will attempt to clean a few teeth at the dogs pace.

Step 3 – Deep Clean:

If the dog is happy and can tolerate the brushing we will book in for a deep clean this may be in one session or split into multiple sessions. Depending on the dog and how they can handle it.

Step 4 – Teeth Cleaning Plan:

Next steps we will set up a teeth cleaning plan look at your pet’s day to day life and book in maintenance sessions, to prevent further plaque build-up and keep on top of those sparkly teeth. We recommend every 6-8 weeks and no longer than 12 weeks. As it will be back to deep cleans from then.
